Incorporated 1932
Most of Village built on reclaimed sand pits
Village population is approximately 2700
The Village encompasses approximately 315 acres.
There are approximately 644 homes and several apartment buildings (Wildwood Gardens and Soundview Gardens).
There are four parcels of land with development possibilities.
  1. Lewis Oil Property - They have made claims that this land will be for sale pending any environmental cleanups.  (total land = 7.8 acres).  There have been proposals for the Grand Union to close its operations at its current location and build a newer/larger facility on this Lewis Oil Property.
  2. Dallas Realty 40.9 Acres -Undeveloped land behind Publishers clearing House, Franklin Stainless, Fiesta Nuts and Pleasant avenue.  This parcel is approximately 13% of the total Village area.  There was a proposal in 1998 by Sandy Hollow Associates, LLP to develop 327 Senior Housing units (8 units per acre).  The property would require a zoning change by the Village Board because the property is currently zoned as Economic Development A (form of industrial).
  3. Thomson Industries - Owns 4.7 acres of undeveloped land on Channel Drive.  There are no long term plans for development. 
  4. Four Water Front Properties - Four parcels that total 1,800 linear feet on the water.  This makes up 4.2 acres.
These four parcels make up almost 18 % of the Village's area.

    59.7% residential
    6.7 % commercial
    10.7 % Industrial
    15.4 % vacant industrial
    1.3% open space
    5.4% utilities (roads and right of ways)
The Port Washington School District has a proposal to change Sousa into a 1200 student middle school, which will double its current size.
